Your journal, and who can reach it.
The short version, before the legal text below.
Your entries are stored on our servers, and they are not end-to-end encrypted. A mentor has to read your page in order to answer it, so the text has to be readable by the system that answers you.
Administrative access is limited to a single account. There is no support desk that can pull up your entries, no second engineer with a key, and no internal dashboard that displays them. We do not read your journal.
Ownership is checked on every request. In the iPhone app, the database itself restricts every row to the account that wrote it. On the web, the server checks that a page belongs to you before it returns anything. Either way, your pages are not served to another person’s login.
Your words go to the AI that writes the mentor’s answer. That is how an answer can be about what you actually wrote. They go there and nowhere else.
We do not train on your entries. Not anonymized, not aggregated. Your journal is not a dataset and it is not for sale.
We do not report on you. If your church joins, they see that a group is journaling. They never see what anyone wrote.
Your pages outlast your subscription. Stop paying and you keep every page. We never delete them to make a point.
We keep your pages until you delete them. Nothing expires and nothing is swept up after a year. The whole point of this thing is reading your own handwriting back long after you wrote it, and that does not work if we tidy up behind you.
Location, if you use Walking Mode. Your route is recorded so your pins land in the right place. It is yours, it is never sold, and Walking Mode is entirely optional.
Walk with Mentors is a journal. What you write in a journal is about as personal as data gets, and we built the app knowing that. The short version: your entries belong to you, we use them only to run the features you asked for, we do not run ad trackers, we do not sell your data, and we do not use your journal to train AI models.
The longer version follows. EDGE Mobile Technologies LLC (“we,” “our,” or “us”) operates the Walk with Mentors iOS application and the walkwithmentors.com website (together, the “Service”). This policy explains what we collect and why.
What we collect
Account information
When you create an account we collect your email address, your name, and authentication credentials. If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive the basic profile information those services share. Authentication is handled by Clerk, a third-party identity provider; we never see or store your password.
Your journal
Your journal entries, scanned pages, highlights, reading plan progress, and streak history are stored in our database, hosted on Supabase, protected by row-level security so that only your authenticated account can read your data. Your journal is the heart of the app and it is yours: we use it to deliver the features you use and for nothing else.
Camera and photos
The app uses your camera to scan handwritten journal pages. Scanned images are uploaded to secure storage tied to your account and processed by an AI vision model (Anthropic Claude) to transcribe your handwriting into text inside your entry. We do not access your camera or photo library for any other purpose.
Location (Walking Mode)
If you use Walking Mode, the app records your GPS route so it can show your walk, your distance and pace, and place your idea pins on the map. Location is collected only during an active walk you started, it is stored in your account like any other entry, and it is never shared with third parties or used for advertising. You can use the rest of the app without granting location access.
Usage data
We collect basic usage information, such as app opens, features used, and error logs, to keep the Service working and improve it. We do not use third-party advertising trackers and we do not sell or share your data with advertisers.
How your entries power mentor features
When you use a mentor feature, the relevant text (for example, this morning’s entry, or the question you asked) is sent to an AI model to generate the response. We use Anthropic’s Claude models for mentor conversations and content understanding, and OpenAI models to create embeddings that make your journal searchable. Mentor voice on walks is generated with ElevenLabs. These providers process your content to return a result; under our agreements with them, your content is not used to train their models. We do not use your journal to train AI models either.
Subscriptions and payments
Pro subscriptions are purchased through the Apple App Store. Apple processes the payment; we never receive or store your card number or billing details. We receive only the subscription status needed to unlock Pro features on your account.
Third-party services
We rely on the following services to operate Walk with Mentors:
- Clerk · authentication and user management
- Supabase · database and file storage
- Anthropic (Claude) · mentor conversations, handwriting transcription, and content understanding
- OpenAI · embeddings that power search and mentor retrieval
- ElevenLabs · mentor voice generation
- Apple · app distribution and subscription billing
Each provider has its own privacy policy governing how it handles data. We share only the minimum data each one needs to do its job.
Security
All data moves over encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS). Journal data is stored behind row-level security policies so only your authenticated account can access it. We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for marketing.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account from inside the app: open Settings and choose Delete Account. Deletion is permanent and removes your journal entries, scans, walks, mentor conversations, and personal data from our systems. If you hit trouble with the in-app flow, email us and we will delete it for you.
Children’s privacy
Walk with Mentors is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal data, contact us and we will remove it.
Your rights
You can, at any time:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Ask us to correct inaccurate data
- Export your journal entries
- Delete your account and all associated data
- Withdraw consent for data processing
Changes to this policy
If we make a material change, we will post the new policy here and update the date at the top. We will not quietly change what we do with your journal.
